Nikki Wareham, a veterinarian at the Hilton Head Humane Society in South Carolina, once witnessed Reeva’s infectious joy firsthand: “She looked at me and was so thrilled that she broke out into a smile.”
Sassa Enscoe, who manages the shelter, gushed about Reeva’s charming smile. Reeva has become quite popular among the shelter staff and visitors alike. This is largely due to her exceptional qualities as a dog, but also because she has been living there for an incredible 950 days. Reeva was just a puppy when she arrived at the shelter in 2015. Authorities had retrieved her from a nearby shelter where she was being kept. According to reports, Reeva was always a docile creature, but she had severe health issues. Her fur was patchy, and her skin was troublesome. Additionally, she had a leg injury that required surgical intervention.
After addressing some concerns, Reeva was eventually adopted, but her stay with her new family only lasted for ten days before she was brought back to the shelter. It wasn’t due to any misbehavior on Reeva’s part, but because she required a specific diet that her adoptive parents couldn’t afford. Since then, Reeva has remained at the shelter and has been given special attention and training throughout her life. Despite not having a permanent home, Reeva is well-loved and pampered by the shelter staff. According to Nikki, “She’s definitely spoiled and adored.”
It’s quite peculiar that it took Reeva such a long time to finally find her forever home. She’s an amazing dog and would make a great addition to any family. Her sweet nature is evident in the way she interacts with people and other pets. She loves being showered with affection and never fails to reciprocate it in the most heartwarming way possible. On top of that, she gets along really well with other dogs and even cats. It’s worth noting that taking care of her is no longer a complicated task as all she needs is one pill a day and regular feeding. So why has nobody adopted her yet?
Nikki and Sassa have a hunch that Reeva may have grown accustomed to the shelter life. When potential adopters came to visit, Reeva didn’t show the same excitement as the other dogs. Instead, she remained on her bed and observed the others’ behavior. Nikki believes that Reeva might believe that the visitors weren’t there for her. Although Reeva already has a loving family in Hilton Head, everyone hopes that another family will adopt her and provide her with an amazing experience.
