Furry Love Story: How a Dog with Chronic Illness Helped a Girl Find True Love

The cute, small animal had been previously adopted but was later returned due to the challenges of caring for it. Despite being available for adoption for several months, no one seemed to take an interest until a kind-hearted person finally came forward. The Humane Rescue Alliance, a reputable organization in the US, gladly welcomed Fiona back as they firmly believe in giving rescued animals a second chance. However, Fiona’s health condition became a cause of concern as she started displaying symptoms of crushing syndrome, which included hair loss, frequent urination, costly medication, and a swollen belly.

Families who were on the lookout for a new pet were captivated by Fiona’s exceptional characteristics. Fiona was adopted back in January, but unfortunately, she was returned to the shelter in August. Nevertheless, the committed volunteers persevered and made it their mission to find Fiona a loving and permanent home. When Monica Whitaker and her daughter Myanni visited the shelter, they initially had their hearts set on a feline companion. However, Fiona caught their eye, and they soon became intrigued by her. There were concerns that she might be expecting, but after double-checking with the shelter, they discovered that she was not pregnant. The family was made aware of the extra care that Fiona required, which presented its own set of challenges when it came to adoption.

Myanni handed over a slice of cheese to shred and give it to Fiona as she responds. The volunteer had given it to the young girl. She then knelt down to pet the dog, but instead of shredding the cheese, she offered the entire slice to Lady, hoping to see her happy immediately.

When her daughter declared that she wanted to adopt a puppy, Monica, the mother, couldn’t help but cry. She had experienced rejection before as her son had been in an accident when he was six which resulted in him having an intellectual disability and speech impediment. Understanding the pain of being turned away, she suggested they adopt a dog instead of a cat. They found a cute little puppy who soon became a treasured addition to their family. Unfortunately, after spending only 120 days with them, the rescue group was heartbroken when the adorable pup was adopted the very next day.

As soon as Fiona stepped inside Monica’s house, she immediately felt at ease. The eldest child took her on daily walks and she was able to relax on the couch whenever she wanted. It seemed that she had become the new leader of the household, taking over from Myanni.
